You could say this is how I got into this mess in the first place!

I’ve taken photos with a 35mm camera for the best part of 50 years, then moved onto digital with the arrival of the Canon EOS 300D not that long after it first appeared in 2003. As you can guess, that makes for an awful lot of images, but because I worked in IT support, I appreciate “backups” is not a dirty word, hence I still possess most of them!

To alleviate the boredom during COVID, I started sifting through what had become a more than few hundred gigabytes of digital images. It’s also ere’s where my love of all things that fly joined in the fun, a goodly portion of those images being aircraft and the idea of a photo book started.

Fast forward to 2026 and I’ve now written what became a two book set and consequently I’m able to call myself someething I never expected I’d be able to call myself, an author. Click across to the Aeroplanes pages to find out more.

As for travel, everyone takes holiday photos, once upon a time with “proper” cameras, be they 110, 127 or 35mm. We’d come home burnt or bronzed, post the films off to wherever or drop them into the local Boots maybe.

Then wait for days in the hope we’d not got a finger in the way of our favourite aunt, the old airport x-ray machine hadn’t fogged the whole roll, all to see if you’d actually captured a few decent snaps. Now most people just use their phone, some of us need something more substantial.

Naturally, I dragged a bit more kit round than most, waited for sunsets, went off the beaten path and came back with a stack of slides usually, certainly sufficient to bore (ex-) friends to death with if they weren’t careful.

At least digital photography provides instant results, saves you a fortune in developing and you can share the better ones at the click of a link.
